School, School....Tut Tut, What to do with School....

Today is Sunday, August 29th, 2010. Tomorrow is Monday, August 30th, 2010. These dates might not mean much to some people. But to children from the ages of 3-21 in Connecticut, this means A LOT. They care that there's a difference between the 29th and the 30th!!! Because tomorrow school starts. The two words that end the fun in the sun and the no responsibilities that come with summer. Kids now have to go and work hard for the first time in about 9 weeks.

Now, I do not agree with the date that school starts. Does it REALLY seem fair for 10 MONTHS OF SCHOOL AND ONLY 2 MONTHS OF VACATION?????????????? That just isn't right, people!! What happened to equality??!! How about 6 months of vacation and 6 months of school? That works, right? Nice and even. If they're really stubborn, how about 8 months of school, and 4 months off? Even that's better than forcing us to sacrafice far over half a year to learning! Even my mother said, "You should either go to school fewer months of the year, or fewer days of the week." And that's coming from a mother of a child who LIKES to go to school. Think about the parents of kids who hate school! That much be torture!! And everyone knows parents want they're kids to learn all the time. So, I think the Board of Education should sit down and think How does the scheduling of the school year make sense WHATSOEVER?!  What annoys me is that the number months we go to school aren't even REMOTELY CLOSE to the number of puny months we get off!!!

School, school...tut tut, what to do with school... I just really don't know. Too bad there's nothing I can really do about it (I know that because I already tried writing a petition about something else I hoped to change, and that didn't work out).

Got to go now. Better go sharpen my pencils. ; )

Stores and Their Thinking

I went to the mall today. And all I can say is "SERIOUSLY? ARE YOU KIDDING? SERIOUSLY?" Now I'll explain why.

I need a new pair of jean shorts, right? Simple, jean shorts just for hanging around in. All but ONE store don't have jean shorts???? It this just me, or is it insanity? It's still summer, people! Get with the program!!! People still wear shorts in the fall, thank you very much!! And then this topic drives me to other aggravating habits made by stores. This is a true story.

I'm in Delaware, just walking around the main street, with all the cute little shops. It's the middle of August. I walk into this little trinket shop with my mom and what do I see? EASTER DECORATIONS!!!! For next year!!! I've seen some pretty insanely far away occations that stores have prepared for, but Easter? To quote Mr. Porter from Unaccompanied Minors, "ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR JUICE-STREAKING LITTLE MINDS?!"

What the world has come to I'm not sure. But I'm positive back in the old days, Christmas decorations were sold at Christmas, Halloween accessories were sold at Halloween time, and so on.

The only thing I know is that I'm not buying Easter decorations in August. And those stores at the mall sure lost business from all those jeans short-searching people out there. Like me.

The New "Mania" (actually, it's not very new at at all, but oh well)

Most people know about the "mania"  in the 1960's. You bet, the Beatles. And what did they call this crazed faze? Yet again you are correct, Beatlemania! Girls swarmed they're cars, hotels, concerts- you name it. And now, from the late 1990's through the "to be named" ending date, is Pottermania. It is a not-so-new "mania", so please ignore this title. But, it is a newer that Beatlemania, so I guess the title really should be, "The Newer Mania". But oh well. Pottermania is all about Harry Potter. He, however, is fictional, unlike the Beatles. The fact the J. K. Rowling made a character so real that there would ACTUALLY have a "mania" named after it is pretty huge.

One more thing. I just learned this recently. Ms. Rowling actually pronounces her last name like the rolling of a ball. I'm "rolling" down a hill. My sister and I learned this from an interview she had after the 5th Harry Potter book came out. I was quite surprised to hear it, just because everyone that I know that's obsessed with Harry Potter (as I am now, too) said Rowling, as in growling. But then again, if you split the first half of the last name in half, it would really be pronounced like ROW (as in row your boat) -LING.

I swear, last names are even more confusing then the English language. And I have first-hand experience. My last name: Gigliotti.
How do most people pronounce it? GIG-LEE-OTEE.
How is really pronounced? GI-LO-TEE

Like I said, it's all very confusing. Back to the subject of the "mania". If you go to a certain wesite called FanFiction.net, you'd be unsurprised to find out that when you click on:
Books
then on
Harry Potter
You'd find out there are about 417,000 fan fictions on the series! This webiste is national! All ages above 13! That's  A LOT of people, people!

I'm one of the many people obsessed with Pottermania. My sister is obsessed with Beatlemania, even though she was born too late. Oh well...that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Ear Piercing

Just this past Sunday, I got my ears  pierced. So did my sister. We both got small little balls; I got gold and she got silver. I was so nervous about getting my ears pierced. I had gotten so many mixed responses on whether it hurt or not.

"It hurts like crazy! My ears were burning for a week after?"
or
"Oh, it's just a little pinch. They'll be a bit sore for a few minutes after but otherwise it's fine."

I now know first hand it's the latter. It was really more waiting for it to happen. You don't know whether it will hurt or not, but you've already paid so there's no turning back.
It was not at all as bad as I might have anticpated. Getting my ears pierced was actually a very pleasant experience. Now, I just have to keep them in for 8 weeks. I'm happy!! Most people get their ears pierced when they're very young, but I didn't.
The thing I don't get is getting piercings anywhere else. Does anyone REALLY need an earring in their eyebrow? Does it really not hurt when you pierce your tongue? It would be like stabbing your tongue with an unnaturally sharp fork or something!!

I'm fine with getting my ears pierced, and I can assure myself I'll never get anything but ears pierced. Ever. Never Ever (Ever, if I didn't make that clear =D)

Harry Potter LEGO Years 1-4....

really is a fun game. My mom ordered it off of Ebay and gave it to my sister and me. It's exactly like what Harry goes through in his first four years at Hogwarts. But, it's not any easier for us than it was for Harry. This game was given 5 stars for everything, including DIFFICULTY!! Stuck on Level 2, my sister and I jumped and bounced, trying to save this person stuck on a chandelier (this happened during Charms class, and no, of course Professor Flitwick isn't going to help us). We finally lower this person to about a foot above the ground, but we have to somehow grab onto him! He can't jump for himself!!! Did he somehow knock himself unconscious by clunking his head on the metal chandelier as he hung there???

In the end, we had to give up all our hard work on saving these people, because it didn't autosave until you completed the level. So we'll have to start over next time we play!

I sure have a goal now. Maybe I can beat it before then end of summer vacation. It's doubtful, but worth a shot. As my sister says, "Expect the worst, hope for the best."

If I could just do something besides jump around a lot....

Design Star Outcome!!!

Does anyone else love to watch Design Star????? I know my sister and I watched everyone episode of this season. We just recently got hooked on HGTV, and then once we saw the first episode of Design Star, we watched it EVERY Sunday.
Now for the outcome. If any of you blog-readers watch it, I hope you caught last night's episode. THE LAST EPISODE!!!!!!!!!

And Emily won! My sister and I loved her and wanted her to win from the start. We are definitely planning to watch her show, Style to Lifestyle. She's peppy, fun to watch, and also has really good design skills (obviously, considering she just won her own TV show on HGTV!)

I hope you all want to watch her show, too! I assure you, you will be impressed. No need whatsoever to worry about that.

But I also want to talk about Michael. He was the other finalist, and I really liked him, too. I definitely wouldn't have complained if he'd won, either. I've always noticed how the camra crews on these shows never show the person that loses. They only show how happy the person who wins is. Now, in a way that's nice, because then if you're really depressed you lost it doesn't show on camera, but it also makes you forget all about that person. Which always makes me feel bad. So, great job Michael, even if you didn't win!! And Emily, I can't wait to watch your show!! (I'll still talk to them, because I would bet all the cash in the world they have never heard of this blog.)

I can't wait for the next season!

The Title

I named the title of this blog because of this past summer. I went to Canada. I bet you can guess which type of bread I tasted at a pastry shop in Quebec. That's right, the french baguette. It's crunchy on the ouside, soft on the inside, and tastes phenomenal with butter. So when I was sitting here trying to think of a name for this blog, my sister said, "Why not The French Baguette?" I decided it was a perfect name because that, just like the other posts I will write, is random and awesome. So, that's right, anyone who either:

a. likes my blog
or
b. likes baguettes

You can thank my sister. I hope you all have enjoyed my first post! I was really excited when I wrote it!!
